Body Mass Index or BMI is a
commonly used formula which looks at the relationship between your weight (in
Kg) and your height (in metres). From large studies which look at BMI and
health, nutritionists have determined cut-off points for BMI which indicate
whether someone is underweight, of normal weight, are overweight or are very
overweight (or obese).
People come in all shapes and sizes however, and
being fit and active, eating a healthy diet of good variety and not smoking are
the most important ways to good health. BMI is a useful measure however, and
people who stay at the same (preferably normal range) BMI throughout their adult
life are considered least likely to have weight related health problems.
